According to Ilovelucy’s essay (2011), “Fast Food Argumentative Essay”, Ilovelucy’s statement that” Everyone should think twice before deciding to eat fast food, one should carefully think before they eat fast food. The health risks that come from eating so much fast food are life-threatening.” Commonly, fast food is a serious problem that arises among humans, a negative impact, and a lot of bad things.
Ilovelucy said (2011), “Everyone should think twice before deciding to eat fast food,” most people carelessly eat fast food without thinking twice about the health risks. In fact, without them knowing they have welcomed diseases to their pristine bodies. According to a recent survey from MasterCard entitled Consumer Purchasing Priorities (2015), as many as 80 percent of Indonesians prefer to dine at fast-food outlets, followed by food courts that rank second with 61 percent, and middle-class restaurants or cafes as much as 22 percent. Based on the type of food itself, fast food ranks the top as junk food, which is most often consumed with an amount of 71% (Poskotanews, 2016). “The results of this survey are interesting that when choosing a place to eat, as many as 80 percent of Indonesians prefer casual dining as in fast food outlets, 61 percent prefer food court and as many as 22 percent prefer middle-class restaurants or cafes”, Safdar Khan (2015) as Country Manager Group, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, and Group Head, Islamic Payments, South East Asia, MasterCard. From the data above, it can be concluded that the majority of Indonesians eat fast food.
Ilovelucy said (2011), “One should carefully think before they eat fast food”. However, People must be selective in choosing which food, because fast food does not just bring full stomach and instant delicacy, it also brought waste of nutrition that will be absorbed to human metabolism. “People who eat fast foods are 51% more likely to develop depression compared to those who eat little or no fast food. Another study found that eating just one serving of French fries per week during adolescence increased women’s breast cancer risk later in life by 27%. And a study found that eating fast food one time per week increased the risk of dying from coronary heart disease by 20% — a risk that grew to 50% for people eating fast food two or three times per week,” said Dr. Fuhrman (2017). “Ready-to-eat foods tend to contain a lot of salt or excessive sodium which can cause high blood pressure for consumers, if consumers already suffer from high blood pressure, they should limit sodium intake to around 2,400 mg per day. Exceeding the rules certainly makes high blood pressure control not good," Erik Rohmando Purba (2013). “Most fast food rank high on the glycemic index (GI). Most fast food is highly processed with high amounts of sodium, saturated fat, and trans fat,” Teresa Cheong (2016). This proves that fast food brings health problems.
Ilovelucy said (2011) “However, fast food is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of eating. It saves a lot of time and money, especially for people who are coming home from work”. In fact, if indeed "easy" is the reason, then there is something easier, namely by bringing food supplies while working, of course, the food that is brought home especially cooking of made by family members are more enjoyable because it has the touch of affection of a family member. At this time, most people are preoccupied with their work which is very tiring and time-consuming, so that time becomes a luxury. A smart worker will complete his task when on time and not bring it into time for his activities, such as eating and family. It's a pity that some people who own the wealth gained from hard work spent it all when they enter the later years of life due to deterioration of health. According to Marissa (2018) in her article, “Money can buy most things in life, but it can’t really buy health. It may be able to buy treatments, but quality of life—the ability to experience joy and share it with others—is not for sale at any price”. There are also those who say that fast food is cheap, this is, of course, wrong, because with one fast food meal, they could make food for 2-4 people (in Indonesia) with their own food. According to Mark Bittman (2011) in his article, “In general, despite extensive government subsidies, hyper-processed food remains more expensive than food cooked at home.” Actually what people think about the benefits of fast food is only a little true.
According to Ilovelucy’s essay (2011), “What most people don’t know is the conditions the animals are living in before they’re killed”. Commonly, people should wonder how the animals that were slaughtered being fed. If viewed in the terms of religion, in Indonesia, the majority of the population is Moslem, and Islam regulates foods that may be eaten and which may not be eaten. This, in relation to the fast food served, it may taste delicious in the mouth but, what they eat will violate the rules in their religion and will not bring the slightest blessing. In fact, what is eaten will be the Moslem’s responsibility. Moslems should make sure how the animals were slaughtered.
In conclusion, fast food is not the solution to problems such as cheap, easy and time-saving instead, fast food will bring problems after problems. This does not mean it must be banned, but about being careful in choosing food, because what we eat will have an impact on human, both health. As good human beings, health maintenance is a must because the healthiness is a very valuable gift and cannot be replaced with anything and obeying the rules that God had given to Moslem is a must. We are obliged to safeguard these two aspects by lessening or instead, abandoning bad habits, namely, eating fast food for any reason, because fast food does more bad than good to the human body.
